Data lab – GOC Power BI

** Normally Power BI labs are the 3rd Wednesday every month but for February 2019 this lab is on the LAST Wednesday**

The Power BI lab will run monthly every 3rd Wednesday. We will run through a number of different topics and challenges but we would also like for COG Power BI practitioners to come in and showcase their innovative solutions to different problems.

In this session Canadian Coast Guard is going to showcase a full stack approach (a pilot project – Database > ETL > Data Warehouse > PowerBI > Publish to Intranet) to Business Intelligence reporting.

We are going to look at strategies to automatically calculate GOC fiscal year dates from regular dates without having to go to the trouble of building large, convoluted lookup tables as well as some other fiendish problems that I will set as challenges. If you have a laptop with Power BI desktop installed please bring it along. A sample dataset will be made available to registrants before the session.

We also encourage you to bring along your problems so that we can group brainstorm solutions together.
